After getting a ‘big break’ last year, Staten Island’s Casale Jewelers is giving back to local charities
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Last year Cory Schifter, owner of Casale Jewelers, was a winner in the nationwide “Big Break” contest launched by American Express and Facebook.
With some of his winnings, he held a contest via Facebook in which local charities vied for donations, and consumers chose the top three organizations that received $1,000 each from Schifter.
And this year, he’s going to donate another $3,000 to three local charities to be chosen by the community via Facebook.
“Last year, we received so much support to win the Big Break that we wanted to give back and help local charities here on Staten Island,” said Schifter.
“We decided to make this an annual event where three local charities will receive $1,000 each on or around the anniversary date of us winning. It’s our way of saying thanks to our community.”
The contest will run from Nov. 1 until Nov.12.
To enter:
- Like Casale Jewelers on Facebook.

- The charity entered must have a Staten Island address to be selected to be part of the promotion.
Last year’s winners were: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Sissy’s Angels Inc. and The Jeffrey Capretta Foundation Inc.
Schifter says he has built his business by helping local charities on Staten Island. He takes part in two annual events: “Comedy for a Cure” for American Cancer Society and the “Holiday Light Show” to benefit the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation.
